Uncle Alex should return to winning form at Greymouth

By

G. K. YULE

Uncle Alex should return to winning form in the Dellaca Fashions Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double and treble, on the opening night of the Greymouth Trotting Club’s autumn meeting at Victoria Park tomorrow.

The Westport three-year-old was a shade disappointing on the recent Nelson-Blenheim cir-

cuit, but he did make ground for sixth on the first day at Richmond Park and then did well to beat all but World of Fame two days later.

He has had a chance to freshen since his four starts on the circuit and he will need to make a big showing in this event if he is to justify a start in the rich classics to be decided in the coming

month. No doubt the hardest for him to beat will be Lordshipman, which is overdue for another win. He has raced to good purpose lately, but has not always had the best of luck. There was merit in his fifth in good time behind World of Fame at Ashburton last Saturday and little improvement would be needed for him to come out on top.

The Murchison four-year-old, Bogart Command, nearly brought off one of the major upsets of the season when he finished second to Steven John in the D.B. Nelson Cup. His dividend that day was $20.20, but his win price in this event is unlikely to be as rewarding. Since that placing he has had a fourth and a fifth from three starts, the fourth being in the Marl-

borough Cup. In his present form he must be a leading chance, with his prospects being even brighter should the track become affected by rain. Omanu, from Westport, could be as good as any of the others, although a forward showing by Radiant King will not be a complete surprise. He has raced most disappointingly lately, but is capable

of much better. There will be solid support, too, for Rapa Eagle, which finished quite well for third to World of Fame at Ashburton last week. That was his best run from three starts this ( season and he could be ' improved. Telopea Ann, Go Duke and Gleniti form a likely trio in the Peter Cocks Handicap, the second leg of the double.
