Reform prompts study
The Canterbury United Council will study its role under reorganised local Government in the region. A sub-committee will be formed to study urgently the effect of local Govern-
ment reform on the council. The chairman of the Local Government Commission, Mr Brian Elwood, said that the proposed metropolitan council would have a “united
voice in negotiations with the Government” and the “ability to plan its future comprehensively.” Cr George Wright said that this would impinge on the role of the United Council. I
