Pakistan’s test hold tightens
NZPA-Reuter Kandy, Sri Lanka Pakistan tightened Its hold on the first cricket test against Sri Lanka yesterday in the limited time available. In the 12.2 overs possible, Sri Lanka slipped from seven without loss to 31 for two in its second innings - still 90 runs behind with two days to play. After overnight rain ruled out play before lunch, Pakistan removed
Sidath Wettimuny, caught off the paceman, Wasim Akram, for eight, and Ravi Ratnayake, bowled by Imran Khan after the Pakistan captain had sent down three successive wides. At this point, Sri Lanka was 19 for two, but the vice-captain, Roy Dias, and Aravinda de Silva kept Pakistan at bay until the weather closed in again before tea. Dias was seven not out, and de Silva on five when the players went off.
