Addington market Two-tooth demand firms

Demand firmed for good quality two-tooths and annual draft breeding ewes at the Addington market yesterday. Two-tooths were about $2 a head dearer than recent Addington rates, and over-all prices were on a par with those at a special two-tooth sale at Addington earlier this month.

Borderdale two-tooths sold to $30.40, and top draftings of both Corriedales and Romneys reached $23. Annual draft Romneys from J. E. Howden, of Banks Peninsula, sold well at $l5, and a line of capital stock two-shear Corriedales made $15.80. Other good annual draft ewes sold between $8

and $l2. Lighter ewes were $3 to $6.

Light and medium lambs were in strong demand, at $9 to $l2. Farmers showed less interest, however, in heavier lambs, probably because of the strike by meat workers which has reduced killing

facilities. The demand for ram lambs also appears to be easing. Local farmers, supported by Mid-Canterbury and West Coast buyers, provided a mixed quality yarding of store cattle with moderate buying power. A feature of the market

was the first .offering this season of calves. Seventeen Simmental cross steer calves from P. D. Hastings, of Irwell, sold at $330. Another major attraction was a line of 91 Hereford steers from Mt Possession station, of Mt Somers. The steers sold at $432 to $506.

The yardings included 5000 adult sheep (5400 last week),

2400 lambs (3600), and 462 cattle. Sales included:— Adult ewes: Orton Bradley Park (Charteris Bay), 176 annual draft Romneys at $11.40; W. E. Haley (Port
