Shipping news All ship-shape for Royal visit
The Port of Lyttelton has undergone something of a tidy-up in recent weeks, particularly In the area of No. 4 wharf, where the Queen will spend time aboard the Royal Yacht Brittania.
White paint abounds on things such as bollards, and the gangway the Queen will use to board the vessel, and the dock itself have been cleaned.
The royal yacht was expected to arrived early this morning and would remain at No. 4 wharf until Saturday. The Queen is to arrive in Christchurch by air. Several other ships will be in port when the Brittania visits, including two which have recently returned from the Antarctic.
Greenwave, a cargo ship, was expected to arrive at 6 a.m. today, while the Polar Queen will leave the port, after a short stay, some time today. The Brittania will have the
company of the H.M.N.Z.S. Waikato, which arrives this afternoon, while various cargo ships and oil tankers will arrive and depart during the Royal yacht’s stay.
