Rise in crime explained

PA Hamilton A group of 20 children was responsible for a 44.7 per cent increase in crime in Paeroa, according to a Paeroa policeman, Constable Bryan Dunn.

Figures given in Hamilton showed that the Paeroa police had 472 offences reported last year. Constable Dunn said the town had a security officer patrolling the area but the service stopped for about five months.

In that period “the kids went rampant,” Mr Dunn said.

The service had resumed and in the last three months only three burglaries - had been reported. \ ,■
