Blow-out in fast car chase
A police car had a tyre blow-out and hit a fence during a high-speed chase in Christchurch early yesterday morning. The accident happened as the police car was pursuing two Mark 3 Zephyrs which were seen speeding through Hornby at 5.15 a.m.
Speeds of 140 km/h were reached during the chase, which ended in Johns Road, Harewood, when a Zephyr spun out and, soon after, the police car hit the fence. The two policemen in the vehicle, which suffered moderate damage, were not injured. The other Zephyr stopped after the accidents.
The drivers of the vehicles then ran off. Police inquiries are continuing into the incident.
