Auckland has new cancer diagnostic aid
To help diagnose breast cancer in New Zealand women, Rank Xerox (NZ) will install the latest mammographic examination product—the System 126—at the Auckland Cancer Society headquarters this month. The chief executive of the Auckland Cancer Society, Mr Allan Spence, said the main advantage of using the Xerox machine is that you can see calcification In the breast very clearly. “This is the major thing we look for in breast cancer,” he said.
“We can also use the system for picking up cancer in women who have no external lumps visible.” Evidence documenting' the value of mammography in diagnosing breast cancer continues to accumulate. Recently the American Cancer Society urged that mammography screening be performed on all women, once between the ages of 35 and 40, then annually or biannually between 40 and 49, and annually from age 50 on.
