Styx Mill culvert

An 18-tonne corrugated steel culvert is prepared for installation where the Styx River flows under the newly aligned Styx Mill Road.

The road has been aligned north of the old road to improve traffic flow to and from the Redwood metropolitan refuse station and provide a safer intersection with the Main North Road, north of the Styx

Mill Bridge. After the culvert is installed the area will be backfilled so that, the road will be ready when the station is opened in April. The National Roads Board is providing

between $400,000 and $500,000 of the costs of the realignment. The manager of the Christchurch residency of the Ministry of Works and Development, Mr Hamish Ballantyne, said that the intersection of the new Styx Mill Road and Main North Road would be well lit to ensure that the intersection was clearly visible at night
