Forced farm sale
Sir,—With farming already in a very depressed state, I read with dismay a statement by Mr Hugh Morrison, an auctioneer for Dalgety Crown, one of our leading farming firms, that 50 per cent of Government valuation was not a bargain price for a farm. Perhaps he would think more like 30 per cent of Government Valuation so everybody could have a go. He said the farm sold for 5156,500. I think that would buy half a house in Fendalton. If Mr Morrison was forced to sell his house in town for 50 per cent of G.V., I wonder what his comments would be. — Yours, etc., R. E. BLAIR. Ashburton, February 21, 1986.
