Chch firms in running
A Christchurch firm is in with a strong chance of winning the prestigious Prince Philip Design Award at a ceremony that will screen on Two at 7.30 this evening. Four out of six of the finalists are from Christchurch and during the ceremony Prince Philip will present a plaque bearing his cipher and signature or the winning designer of design team, along with a $5OOO study award sponsored by P.D.L. Industries, Ltd.
The award was first presented in 1981 to recognise and promote outstanding product design and is open to any New Zealand-designed product already on the market bearing the Designmark quality label. The four Christchurch finalists are: The Drycom computerised wool-drying control unit, manufactured by G. W. Street, Ltd; a range of slotted core type optical fibre communication cables, manufactured by Austral Standard Cables Pty, Ltd; the P 500 series of two-way radios, made by Tait Electronics, Ltd; and a range of hoseproof electrical switches and plugs, manufactured by P.D.L. Industries, Ltd.
