Start made on taking census
PA ■ ? ' ’ Wellington The distribution of questionnaires for the 1986 census of population and dwellings has begun. Every household in New Zealand will be delivered census questionnaires to be filled in on census night, Tuesday, March 4, by each person staying there. < A dwelling questionnaire, and an information leaflet, available in English and six other languages, also will be issued.
If an enumerator finds nobody home after at least two visits, questionnaires and other docu-
merits will be left at the dwelling, says the Government Statistician, Mr Steve Kuzmicich.
Interpreters are available to help those who have difficulty with English and special arrangements have been made for distribution of questionnaires to those on trains, buses, ships, fishing boats and pleasure craft on census night. Mr Kuzmicich says that if any household has not received census questionnaires by midday, Monday, March 3, they should get in touch with their local census office or get them from a post office.
