It receives sewage and trade wastes from Its five Constituent Authorities and serves a population of approximately 115,300. The Board requires a suitably qualified Senior Engineer to administer the maintenance and operation of the Board’s pumping stations, trunk sewers and Milliscreen Treatment Plant. The Chemist/Trade Wastes Officer is directly responsible for this work. He will work closely with the management of industries in the Hutt Valley to ensure compliance with Trade Waste Bylaws. Inspection of premises, frequent sampling and flow measurement and analysis of effluents will be involved. Various physical, chemical and biological testing is required to ensure efficient operation of the wastewater system and the milliscreen treatment plant and the effect on the environment at the point of ocean discharge. Preference wil be given to applicants with an MSc or BSc in chemistry and/or microbiology but experienced applicants with NZCS will also be considered.
