Easy time for Steven John
From ALEX MCMILLAN Westport
The Westport pacing sensation, Steven John, has been given an easy time since his courageous win at Blenheim earlier this month (his sixth win in succession) and his trainer, John Rogers, said yesterday that it was most unlikely that the six-year-old would contest races at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter carnival next month. “He has had a lot of hard racing and I think we will bypass Addington and perhaps aim him at the Methven feature in April. We won’t be making an all-out effort to qualify him for the New
Zealand Cup in November but if we gain the four necessary wins we will probably line him up,” Rogers said. Rogers said that some good offers had been made for the gelding recently but at present he has no plans to part with the gelding.
