Commandant’s coup
As commandant of Bumham Military Camp and patron of the Bumham Camp Golf Club, David Grant is a man of authority at the army base. In recent months, though, his influence has manifested itself on the golf course.
Four months ago he played the perfect tee shot at the par-three 120 m ninth hole at Burnham, and earlier this week, competing in a twilight
tournament, he pulled off another coup. Wielding his trusty No. 5 iron, he scored his second hole-in-one, this time at the par-three 158 m fifteenth. Another man to achieve an ace recently was Paul Nelson, formerly a long-serving secretary of the Christchurch Golf Club. His successful tee shot was at the par-three 152 m seventeenth hole at Waimair Beach.
