Soccer odds on Liverpool

NZPA-Reuter London Liverpool became the clear favourite for the English Football Association (F.A.) Cup after being offered the most straightforward route to the semi-finals from a complex draw for the quarter finals. The former European Cup holders will be at home to a fellow first division side, Watford, or the third division team, Bury — who have yet to play their fifth round tie — if it can successfully remove York City in a home replay after a 1-1 draw in their fifth round clash at York last Saturday.

The cup’s holder, Manchester United, which beat Everton, 1-0, in last season’s final, will have to win two tough away ties

to join its rivals in the last four. With none of the eight fifth-round ties yet settled — four were drawn last Saturday and four postponed because of severe weather — the draw for the quarter finals involved all 16 teams which won through from the fourth round. Thus, Manchester United must overcome West Ham before it can consider a sixth-round tie at either Derby or Sheffield Wednesday. A fourth division side, Peterborough, which held second division Brighton to a 2-2 draw last Saturday, was rewarded with the chance of a home quarter final against the winner of the MillwallSouthampton replay . . . assuming Peterborough itself can win its replay at Brightbii.
