Bilders material

Bill Direen is considering re-recording a selection of The Bilders songs for an album that may get an overseas release. The former Christchurch musician, now resident in Wellington, said the project would be a carefully thought out one, re-recording old songs, and possibly including a couple of songs from The Bilders new material.
A person connected with an Auckland recording studio had contacts overseas to distribute such an album, he said. The album, a kind of best of, would not be on
the South Indies label,
which is run by Direen. The recording would be done using the present Bilders line-up of Greig Bainbridge (bass), Karl Holdorf (trombone), Michael Tan (drums), plus Direen. Direen is also working on establishing a new venue in Wellington, similar to the Blue Ladder in Christchurch, which he set up. The Wellington venue, at the Railway Hotel, had been going for about three or four weeks, but It would take about six months before people put it on their itinerary of
things to do, he said.
Direen and The Bilders are on a nationwide orientation tour of campuses, and are including shows in places where the university festivals will not allow the public in. For Christchurch, The Bilders play at the DB Riccarton tomorrow and Saturday evenings, although they will not be back to the University of Canterbury until March 7. The Bilders also have a date at the Flying Kiwi Fringe Festival in March, which is being run in conjunction with the New Zealand Festival of the Arts in Wellington.
