Festival popular

The demand for tickets to this week-end’s Whitecliffs Music Festival had been so popular that the three Christchurch shops selling them ran out earlier in the week, said Deirdre Grenell, one of the organisers.

As reported last week a limit of 4000 tickets has been made, and Deirdre Grenell said that gate sales were “unlikely” because of the big demand.

Those who are considering going for a day might like to consider that Saturday is the quieter of the two full days, with more emphasis on folk and blues, although Jango Edwards is on in the evening. Sunday is more lively with country and western music being prominent.

A late withdrawal from the festival has been Louie and the Hotsticks, but Speaking Jivanese, another rock band, has joined about 40 acts to play during the festival, which begins at 7 p.m. tomorrow evening and runs until 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Among the artists in-

eluded in the festival, and not mentioned last week, are the folk singers, Phil Garland, Martin Curtis, Ms Conception, a folk duo, and Lynn Clark and Thunderhead. Country rock comes courtesy of The Remedy, of Dunedin, The Spaghettis, Turkey Buzzard, and the Ranchsliders. Tickets for the festival cost $l5 for a week-end and $lO for a day. These can be bought at the two EMI shops and CJ’s music store, in Christchurch, and Gnome Ski Hire, Darfield.
