Storms a killer
NZPA-AP San Francisco Thousands of people were moved in the United States west yesterday and the heaviest rain in 31 years forced rivers out of their banks, landslides blocked main highways and railways, and heavy mountain snow triggered killer avalanches.
At least seven people were killed and six were missing since the first in a
series of storms struck the West a week ago.
Since then more than 46cm of rain has fallen on parts of California and 2.5 metres of snow in some mountains.
More than 3000 residents of northern California were in evacuation centres, their homes flooded or threatened by slides.
