‘Vast campaign’ to free agents
NZPA-Reuter La Rochelle A leading French opposition politician has promised a “vast campaign” to free the two French agents jailed in New Zealand for their part in sinking the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior. The agents, Dominique Prieur and Alain Mafart, are serving 10-year jail sentences for their part in the conspiracy to sink the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland Harbour last year. “We will launch a vast campaign to call on the (French) President to act to obtain the release of the two officers,” Francois Leotard, who heads the centre-Right Republican Party, told an election rally on Tuesday aimed at winning support ahead of crucial legislative elections in March.
