Canty athlete qualifies
PA Auckland Kerry Rodger, of Otahuhu, and Dave Burridge, from Christchurch, qualified for selection to the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games over 5000 m after impressive performances at East Coast Bays Stadium on Tuesday evening. Rodger was clocked at 13min 30.0 s and Burridge at 13min 32.75. The standard was 13min 355. Geoff Shaw, also bidding to break the qualifying time, withdrew after the eighth lap with a tear at the base of an achilles tendon.
