A. Herlihy to drive at Greymouth
Tony Herlihy, currently the leading reinsman of the season, will be driving at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting at Victoria Park on March 1 and 3. As well as earning driving fees Herlihy will be aiming at a bonus of $250 payable should he score a total of 110 points from five drives on each night of the meeting. Points will be allocated on the basis of 15 for a first, 13 for second, 12 for third, down to one for last in a 14-horse field. “The points will be allocated to his best five drives each night,” said the president of the club, Mr Bob Dayne, yesterday.
In addition another $250 will be payable to any horseman capable of
gaining 110 points or more and at the same time exceeding the total amassed by Herlihy. Should there be a tie, the prize will be split. The club has also arranged for a set of harness to be competed for by every horse racing at the meeting. A draw will be held for this. There will be a draw also for another set of harness which will go to one of the horses driven by Herlihy. Originally the club had arranged for a contest between Herlihy and Robert Cameron, but the latter will not be able to drive on the first night of the meeting because of a
suspension incurred at Addington Raceway last Saturday. .
