Lion Brown Easter Cup stake lifted to $50,000

The Lion Brown Easter Cup, to be run at Addington Raceway on Saturday, March 29, will be worth $50,000, an increase of $20,000 over last year. The Metropolitan Club’s feature race will as usual be run over 3200 m under invitation conditions. The club has decided on substantial increases in the stakes for feature races to be run on the two nights and one day of the meeting, which opens on Wednesday, March 19, and continues on Saturday, March 22. A total of $300,000, including a bonus of

$lOO,OOO payable to any horse winning all three legs, will be attached to the John Brandon Series. The first two legs, to be run over 2600 m and 2000 m, will each be worth $45,000, with the John Brandon New Zealand Derby Stakes on the last day being worth $llO,OOO, an increase of $30,000 over last year.

The Firestone Eurosteel Trotting Championship, also on March 29, has had its stake doubled to $20,000.

This race, with a C 5 front, will be run over 2600 m with a mobile start.

The stake for the National Bloodstock Welcome Stakes has been boosted by $BOOO to $20,000. This race, for two-year-olds, will be run over 2000 m from a standing start.

The main race/on the first night will be a mobile start race over 2000 m for C 7 to C 9 pacers. The stake will be $lO,OOO, ah increase of $2500.

A C 5 handicap over 3200 m for trotters will be worth $BOOO, an increase of $l5OO. The stake for the Trotting Stakes, to be run on March 22, has been in-

creased by $2500 to $15,000. The same night there will be an invitation race over 2600 m for trotters with a stake of $lO,OOO, an increase of $2500, and the main race for pacers will be run over the same distance under invitation conditions for a stake of $12,000, an increase of $2OOO.

The club will continue with a penalty-free nontotalisator race for two-year-old trotters. Run over 2000 m from a mobile start, it will carry a stake of $l5OO and be run on the second night of the meeting.
