Boys’ Brigade members on the Ice
The Boys’ Brigade was well represented in Antarctica this summer with three members at Scott Base.
Richard Garlick has been involved with the Boys’ Brigade for about 18 years and is an officer in the First Christchurch Company. He has spent most of the summer at Scott Base as an assistant maintenance officer and travelled by icebreaker to Cape Hamlet where he was part of a New Zealand team dismantling the former joint United States-New Zealand base.
David Roy was in Antarctica for one month as a youth group representative within the New Zealand Antarctic programme. He is a sergeant in the Seventh Christchurch Company of the Boys’ Brigade. The third • Boys* Brigade member is Bruce Morris, an officer with the First Rangiora Company of the brigade. He was at Scott Base for two weeks working as a mechanical draughtsman for the Ministry of Works and Development.
