Drunk ban planned
The French Government is planning a new law which would allow the police to ban suspected drunken drivers from driving for up to 72 hours pending the results of blood tests In Britain, new research into the effect of alcohol on reaction times is being done at the behest of the Transport Secretary, Nicholas Ridley.
He told the House of Commons that the' International Road Research Documentation Scheme had 7000 references on the subject, but the figures were still inconclusive on how much a given level of alcohol would affect an individual. Mr Ridley advised the Commons that he had asked for new work on impairment to be fully examined.
