Rover-Honda venture

The Honda-derived car of the Austin Rover division of British Leyland will be unveiled in Europe in June and will be called the Rover 800 and, in North America, the Sterling. It will be powered by either a new Austin Rover 2-litre twin-cam engine in single and multi-point injection forms or by a 2.5-litre V 6 Honda engine. The current Rover SDI will continue to be produced

alongside the 800 for the foreseeable future, but the range will be restricted to three models. Apparently British Leyland was not keen to sell the new car in North America with a Rover label and settled on Sterling for that market. The Rover SDI gained a reputation for poor reliability in the United States and Canada before it was withdrawn from sale.
