100 years of motoring to be celebrated in Chch
Christchurch will be host to the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand’s first Pan-Pacific Rally which will allow as many veteran and vintage motoring enthusiasts as possible within the Pacific Basin to celebrate the centenary of the motor car in an appropriate
manner in this part of the world. Headquarters for the rally, which will be held between February 23 and March 6, will be at Addington Raceway and the event has attracted more than 750 vehicles, some of them from countries well beyond the Pacific Basin.
In addition to New Zealand representation, cars are being brought by their owners from Britain, the United States, Canada, West Germany, Gumsey and Australia. The rally will be staged over several days from the opening on Sunday, February 23 to the closing and prizegiving on Thursday, March 6. The competitive side of the rally will be conducted over five days during which all the entrants will motor over five distinct routes.
With rally headquarters at Addington Raceway, there will be ample opportunities for the people of Christchurch and Canterbury to see the cavalcade of vehicles here for the rally at close quarters and, no doubt, many of the vintage cars will be seen on city streets for the organisers of the rally have allowed plenty of time for the visitors to participate in activities other than the actual rally in ' and around Christchurch.
