Driver a ‘nice guy’
Mr Denis Drinkwater, who was killed by a bomb blast on Tuesday, was a “nice guy” who did not seem to have any enemies, according to friends. He was the father of a son and the step-father of four children. “He was different, and very friendly,” said Mrs Jan Lynn, a former neighbour of Mr Drinkwater. “I have never come across anyone who disliked him.” .
Mrs Lynn described him as “a burly man with a little voice which did
not quite suit him.” “It made you like him.”
She said that she could not believe it when she heard that he had been killed in the bomb blast at the Mogal Freight yard in Sockburn. He was an owner-driver for Mogal.
Mr Drinkwater was described by friends as a hard worker who did not go out often. To relax, he played darts and sometimes had a few beers at home. He had been a truck driver for years and be-
fore that, at one stage, had worked in a butcher’s shop.
As a driver, he worked long hours and often took his truck home.
He decided recently to curtail his dart-playing to spend more time with his son. .
Mr Drinkwater separated from his wife about six months ago and moved from the family home in Hei Hei to an address in Bishopdale. <
A funeral for Mr Drinkwater .will be held tomorrow.
