Amadeus Quartet heads 1986 list

A tour by the worldfamous Amadeus Quartet, with pianist Michael Houstoun, is the highlight of the 1986 chamber music programme announced by the Music Federation.
This ensemble will give concerts in Wellington and Auckland and is part of a programme of nearly 500 concerts. The Zelanian Ensemble will give concerts in Timaru on April 18, Akaroa on April 20, Blenheim on April 22 and Motueka on April 23. It comprises Rae de Lisle (piano), Donald Maurice (viola) and Deborah Rawson (clarinet) and offers works by Bruch, Furst and Uhl, as well as a new piece, “Excursion,” by New Zealand composer William Southgate. The Academy Piano Trio, comprising John Harding (violin), Nathan Waks (cello) and John Winther (piano), will give a concert in Christchurch on April 30. Members of
the trio are based in Hong Kong. The Auckland Wind Quartet, with David Guerin (piano), will give a concert in Blenheim on May 29, with works by Beethoven, Mozart, Stravinski, Poulenc, and New Zealand composer David Hamilton.
Helen Moulder (actress) and Michael Calvert (guitarist) will give concerts in Motueka on June 14, Greymouth on June 16, Timaru on June 21 and Akaroa on June 22. They will present a selection of poetry, prose, songs and guitar music, with its emphasis on New Zealand. The Australian Ensemble will give a concert in Christchurch on June 23, with works for violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet and piano. The programme covers a range of instrument combinations, Including a new work by New Zealand composer Gillian Whitehead.
The Cambridge University Chamber Choir, one of the best choirs in the
world and an outstanding interpreter of English choral music, will give a concert in Christchurch on July 21. An Australian group, Sirocco, will present folk music concerts in Nelson on July 28 and Blenheim on July 29. Two top pianists, Diedre Irons and Michael Houstoun, will tour giving piano duets. They will play in Timaru on October 13, Christchurch on October 14 and Nelson on October 23, with works by Bach (arr. Hess), Mozart, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Lutoslawski, Ravel, Schubert and Stravinski.
Young pianist Sharon Joy Vogan will give a series of concerts of works by Mozart, Beethven, Schumann, Ravel, Barber, and a new work by New Zealand composer Edwin Carr. She will play in Akaroa on October 18, Darfield on October 20, Queenstown on October 23, Blenheim on October 29, Motueka on October 30 and Westport on November 1.
