Surf rescue
Sir, —I thank Mr G. McElwee for his letter of February 15 in which he thanked bach-holders for saving him and his wife from the surf. To prevent politics destroying the humane efforts of those concerned, I wish to clarify the situation. The three people involved in the rescues came from residential and bach dwelling and all from families that strongly support the surf club. The club relies heavily on the small Taylors Mistake communitv • This season 22 members are from baches and 11 from resi- ’ dential properties. Mr McElwee also expressed his concern for baches, and public Ifety in
the future. With the demolition of baches on Crown land, half the community will be removed, reducing surf club support and numbers of qualified people capable of performing surf rescues outside patrol hours. The club again thanks Mr McElwee for pointing out the seriousness of the City Council’s actions. — Yours, etc., m. k. McClurg, Club captain, Taylor’s Mistake S.L.S.C. February 17, 1986.
