Top Australian in sprintcar field
A top Australian sprintcar driver, Sid Moore, will this evening line up against 15 New Zealand drivers and Bryan "The Bullet” Bullard, of America, at the Handy Hire Centre International Speedway, Ruapuna Park.
The drivers will race in the Viking Pies Sprintcar Stampede, which will be decided on points over five races.
Moore’s car is powered by a 366 Chevrolet engine. The Australian recently raced against the noted American driving family, the Kinsers, which includes the world sprintcar champion, Steve Kinser.
In Australia there is a 366 cubic inch limit on motor size. In New Zealand, rules allow an unlimited capacity. Many of Moore’s rivals here will have up to 400 cubic inch power plants, so it will be interesting to see how Moore makes up for the lack of power. The Sydney driver should get his main opposition from Christchurch’s Bruce Hobbs, the new national champion, the North Islanders, lan Easton, Noel Goodwin and Lyndon Kendall; and Bullard.
Moore’s only other meeting in New Zealand, will be on Sunday afternoon in the CRC Chemicals New Zealand Grand Prix, which is also the final meeting of the season.
