Wrong body buried
NZPA-Reuter Presteigne
A retired Welsh farm worker and his three sons are organising a second funeral after discovering they had buried the wrong woman by mistake. “You can imagine the terrible shock we got,” said George Haybird, aged 64, after learning that a woman, aged 80, had been buried in place of his wife, Irene, aged 64. “It was bad enough as it was, but it would have been worse if it had been a cremation.” Officials at Hereford
County Hospital, where Mrs Haybird died, said a mortuary attendant had mistakenly released the wrong body. Hereford health authorities have apologised to the family for whal was described as an “appalling error.” The family said it had arranged for the second funeral to be held at a church in the nearby village of Byton due to unhappy memories associated with the first, which was attended by 60 mourners in Presteigne last week.
