Cockatoo advertising banned
NZPA-Reuter Jakarta Indonesia’s Garuda airline is in a row over cockatoos —r a protected species that is banned for export It has been ordered to withdraw advertising posters showing a bird trader with a cockatoo perched on his hand and a caption saying: “Garuda handles the export of cockatoos with affection,” Antara News Agency said. The Population and Environment Minister, Professor Emil Salim wrote to the airline’s president saying that Garuda’s advertising agency must in future consult him when using birds and animals “to prevent such carelessness”. •
