Digby appeals at Foxton today

Special correspondent Wellington On his home course, Digby should be hard to beat when he contests the Karol Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Foxton Racing Club’s meeting today.

The son of Serenader has won two of his 27 races so far, but has been second eight times, most recently at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day, when he failed by only a narrow margin to beat Trocane. Before that he was fourth on the same course on Boxing Day.

Fille Du Monde comes straight to Foxton from a success in the Kaitoke

Jetbet: 3 Race 1 12.10

Handicap at Trentham just over a week ago. The mare missed Trentham on Saturday when the rains came and before the Anniversary Day success she was placed at Woodville. Whata Beauty comes to this race fresh from a placing behind Amethyst in the Field House Handicap at Awapuni on Marton Cup day earlier in the month. Her form all along has been sound and she has a fair draw for this test.

Norfolk Bard has raced once only since his narrow loss to Otehi Gold in the Odlins Plate at Trentham in December. He was well back at Awapuni

last Monday, but should improve. The second leg will be run on the Southern Cross Handicap and Willowvale looks the leading light. Trained on the track, she has had three runs this time back, her most recent effort being a sixth in the Wharite Handicap at Awapuni on January 20. Before that, she had raced twice at the Hawke’s Bay New Year meeting for a third and fourth.

Star Hope finished third in the Wharite and with his pace should run out the 1200 m strongly. I’m Paddy, Windermere and Clandestine, a last-start upset winner at Hastings, have also to be respected.
