Air Staff appointment
PA Wellington Air • Commodore Geoffery Hubbard, of Blenheim, has been appointed the new Deputy Chief of Air Staff.
He has taken up his appointment, succeeding Air Commodore Frederick Kinvig, who is retiring.
Air Commodore Hubbard was formerly Air Officer Commanding the R.N.Z.A.F. Operations Group. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1953 and trained as a pilot at the R.A.F. College, Cranwell, in Britain. He served with No. 14 Squadron in Singapore during the Malayan Emergency and was a flying instructor before becoming the flight com-
mander of the Iroquois helicopter flight of No. 3 Squadron at Auckland in 1965. He was appointed the Officer Commanding R.N.Z.A.F. Transport Wing at Auckland in 1972 before moving to Defence Headquarters In 1975. In 1976 he took command of RNZAF Base Wigram. In 1980 he was appointed the Deputy Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Personnel) at Defence Headquarters. Air Commodore Kinvig, of Wellington, joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1952 and served in Cyprus and Singapore with the No. 14 Squadron. In 1961, he flew Canberra light bombers with the No. 75 Squadron at Singapore and in 1962
was appointed flight commander of the squadron at Ohakea. He began a two-year tour of exchange duty with the U.S.A.F. ln-1965 before joining the Air Staff at Wellington and in 1970 took command of Woodbourne. In 1971 he was appointed commanding officer of No. 75 Squadron at Ohakea before becoming the Deputy Commander of the New Zealand Force South-East Asia at Singapore in 1977. In 1979 he was appointed Senior Air Staff Officer in the Operations Group headquarters at Auckland and in December of that year was appointed Officer Commanding at Ohakea.
