Chinese cancer deaths
NZPA-AFP Peking Cancer claims 800,000 lives a year in China and is the third leading killer, the “China Daily” reports. The English-language newspaper said a 1984 study showed that cancer was the leading cause of death in large Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Nanking, and Canton. It quoted the Health Minister, Cui Yueli, as saying that China, with a million cases and 800,000 deaths a year, needed more specialised hospitals to treat the disease. Neurovascular diseases are China’s biggest killer, followed by cardiac problems, according to official statistics.
