NZPA-AP Peking China has 2.39 million women scientists and technicians, who make up a third of the workforce in those fields, the official Communist Party newspaper said. About 1.24 million Chinese women are doctors, 570,000 are engineers and technical personnel, 410,000 are teachers,. 90,000 work in
scientific research, and 60,000 are agricultural technicians, the “People’s Daily” said. The All-China Women’s Federation said last summer that while China has a total female workforce of 41.9 million, just 3.2 per cent of the Ministers of the State Council and 6.1 per cent of Communist Party department chiefs are women.
