Chance Cherie to start Timaru treble
By
JEFF SCOTT
Chance Cherie looks well placed to improve on her fine second on the first day and win the Aaron Court Motels Mobile Pace, the first leg of the T.A.B. treble, at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting today. The four-year-old daughter of Noble Lord and Chance Rosette had little in her favour when the runnerup to Shirl’s Lord on the first day, settling at the rear after drawing the outside of the front line and finishing strongly after being last with 1000 m to run. Chance Cherie has drawn
the “ace” today and should get every chance for her Ashburton, trainer-driver, Pat O’Reilly, jun., who trains the close relative of Shoalastic for her Kaikoura owner, Mr “Snow” Dalzell, who has enjoyed good success with Ley Fow from the stable in recent seasons.
The Richard Brosnantrained Frangelico was highly impressive in making a winning debut in a 25min 5.5 s rate for 2700 m (mobile) on the first day, after overcoming an early check, and looks the one to beat in the second leg, the Marshall and Tayler Mobile Pace. The four-year-old half-sis-ter by Golden Fulla to Lord
Kara might get the most opposition from the Wash-dyke-trained General Jones, a useful third to Early Riser and Hallfield Nat at Addington Raceway on January 1, but an unlucky fifth on the first day at Timaru when he failed to work clear after trailing three back to the home turn.
In a fine field for the D.B. Timaru Cup, the third leg of the T.AJJ. treble, much interest will be taken in the former Southland pacers, Chipaluck (with Colin de Filippi) and Flying Count (now with Richard Brosnan), and they, along with the consistent Late Lustre, make most appeal.
