New Coast air service
Coast Air, Ltd’s licence to fly a daily return service between Greymouth and Christchurch has been granted, and the new link will start today. The 20-seat De Havilland Twin Otter, named “The Province of Westland,” under the command of the chief pilot, Captain Phil Cooper, will leave Greymouth at 7 a.m. and arrive
back at 9.15 a.m. The evening service will leave Greymouth at 4.40 p.m., returning at 6.30 p.m. The twice-a-day return flights will run Monday to Friday, with a Saturday morning and Sunday evening return service. There will be no flight this Sunday, however, as Coast Air has been invited to fly the aircraft to
Airshow ’B6 in Palmerston North, to mark the special contribution that De Havilland aircraft have made to New Zealand aviation. A special demonstration has been arranged to display the short take-off and landing abilities of the aircraft, with Captain Denis Hosking, of Coast Air, at the controls.
