Treaty protest planned
PA Auckland Treaty of Waitangi protesters will be taken by bus from Auckland to Wellington next month to protest against the Government’s treaty commemorations. The protest group People Opposed to Waitangi is organising this year’s protest action against the Treaty of
Waitangi ceremonies at the Beehive on February 6. A spokeswoman for the group, Ms Claire Virtue, said that up to five busloads of people might travel to Wellington. “We expect a large turnout," she said. Protest tactics have not been discussed in detail but
it is expected the group will march to the Beehive when the official Government reception takes place. ’‘The change of venue (from Waitangi to Wellington) will not deter us “Wellington is the centre of monocultural decisionmaking and is therefore politically significant.”
