Man remanded after siege in Geraldine
PA Timaru The man at the centre of an armed siege in Geraldine on Wednesday, has been remanded in custody to appear in the District Court at Timaru next Tuesday. The man, aged 29, was charged with being under the influence of drink or drugs to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the firearm in his possession, a shotgun. No plea was
entered. Seeking a remand, Sergeant R. J. Laredo said it was hoped the situation could be finalised by then. Mr W. C. F. Edgar, J.P., granted the remand in custody. He also agreed to Mr Laredo’s request for interim suppression of name. Mr Edgar said that was appropriate as it appeared the charge might have arisen out of a domestic incident.
