Thatcher ‘obstacle’
NZPA-Reuter LONDON The lobbyist, Ralph Nader, whose campaigning led t‘q the 1966 Freedom of Inforriiation Act in the United States, has said that the British Prime Minister, Mrs Margaret Thatcher is the main obstacle to similar legislation in Britain. Mr Nader, aged 51, in London to receive an award from the British Freedom of Information Campaign, told a news conference: “It looks
like the public mood in this country is for more openess in Government but Mrs Thatcher is not reflecting this mood.” He described Mrs Thatcher as the principal impediment to a Freedom of Information Act in Britain and the repeal of the 75-year-old Official Secrets Act, which has been used to prosecute civil servants for leaking Government informatinn
