Praise for members
The Footsteps of Scott expedition leader, Robert Swan, yesterday praised the support and courage of all involved in the seven years of planning for the expedition.
“Everyone was solid, everyone was strong ... we have all given our all,” he said.
Some people had been involved during the whole seven years, others for only seven days, but they , had all contributed to the expedition and all shared in its achievement, said Mr Swan.
“I am very proud to have been associated with all these people.” For several of those involved in London, Christchurch and in the support crew in the Southern Quest, it was a family affair. Amanda and Tim Lovejoy are one brother and sister combination involved, Daryl and Maryanne Jones another.
Amanda Lovejoy is a member of the organising committee for the expdition, and has been the co-ordina-tor in Christchurch during the last few days. Her brother, Tim, is one of the two Englishmen who remained in the' party of three still on the ice.
Daryl Jones, of Christchurch, was the only New Zealander on the expedition. He was a member of the support crew. His sister, Maryanne, and her mother, Barbara, have been assisting Amanda Lovejoy with arrangements for the return of the expedition members.
