Saloon show by guides
Greymouth reporter Two hundred ranger guides, part of the Westrek international camp at Reefton, are providing some extra interest in Shantytown this week. They have pitched their tents next to the town and are doing their own catering. They are in two groups, and 100 of them have dressed in pioneer clothing and are living as young women of a century ago, while the remaining 100 are producing a saloon show which will be performed tonight at Shantytown. The remaining 500 guides are engaged in other activities, including five-day expeditions involving whitewater rafting, caving, sailing, and flying. The public has been invited to an international night on Saturday at the Reefton Racecourse. Overseas items (there are 75 guides from outside New Zealand) and a full programme have been arranged. The camp will close on Monday, after open days on Saturday and Sunday.
