Elders boosts N.Z. interests
PA Wellington Elders Pastoral, Ltd, has bought the stock and station activities of the Farmers Co-operative Organisation Society in Wanganui, Marton and Feilding. The purchase gives the Australia-based company access to two strategic saleyards, Fordell, near Wanganui, and Feilding, which is the country’s biggest cattle-selling centre, Elders said. Elders will operate its regional woolbroking activities through Fanners Cooperative Wools, Ltd, in Wanganui. The stock and station staff of FCOS would join Elders Pastoral. The company’s motor division business was excluded from the agreement. The transaction is subject to approval of the Examiner of Commercial Practices, the Overseas Investment Commission, and the agreement of present partners of FCOS in the two
respective saleyards, Dalgety Crown, Ltd, and Wrightson NMA, Ltd. Elders Pastoral expects the transaction to take ef-.. feet from February 1. The Manawatu and West Coast Stock and Station Agents’ Association recently admitted Elders Pastoral as - a member. Elders Pastoral’s general manager (development), Mr Sholto Matthews, said his company was now in a position to offer services to farmers in the Wairarapa, Manawatu and Wanganui. This service would be an-, adjunct to the service previously provided by the arable specialist company, Hodder and Tolley, which is now a fully owned company of, aifd trading as, Elders Pastoral. Elders International Ltd, (NZ), announced that it had stepped up Hawke’s Bay operations with the purchase of a modern scouring plant from Louis Wood and Son, Ltd, of Awatoto.
