Wide range of major appliances at new store
Forty-odd years of appliance and musical trading ended last week with the demolition of the old building on the corner of Cashel and High Streets. The late nineteenth century building, most recently occupied by Lanes Appliance Centre, Ltd, has had a long association with things musical and electrical — . earning it the nickname of ; “Appliance Corner” j amongst Christchurch people. ! The home of Peterson’s t music shop in the 19405, it ’ then became Sedley Wells | for many years. I During this era, the store was once host to Winifred Atwell when the celebrated pianist visited the city. Long-time residents still recall the queues that formed outside the shop then to hear her play. I The old building has gone to make way for a high-rise I complex, to provide office ' accommodation for the I, United Building Society. Meanwhile, the manager of Lanes Appliance Centre,
Mr Ray Dann, his assistant manager, Mrs Colleen Lucas,'and sales staff have moved to larger premises at 65 Manchester Street, opposite Coker’s Hotel. With 25 years experience, Mr Dann is a well-known and respected figure within the industry. Formerly the company’s warehouse, the new site allows Lanes to consolidate its warehouse and retail
operations in the city into one large building. Plenty of off-street parking is another benefit of the move to Manchester Street The new city store carries a wide range of major appliances. It specialises in Kelvinator and National whitewear — refrigerators, freezers, ranges and the like — and has a full selection of colour television and microwave ovens. The new store also has a very large selection of good, late-model second-hand appliances. These are all offered for sale with the company’s unique 12-month guarantee. Lanes Appliance Centre, Ltd, also has four suburban outlets — in Riccarton, Northlands, Beckenham and New Brighton — all offering the same high standards of service and years of experience in the appliance industry.
