Dollar trade firmer
PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar drifted upwards in quiet trading and briefly broke through US5lc on the foreign exchange market yesterday.
It closed firmer at 1U50.5080/95, compared with its $U50.5050/65 opening. The kiwi reached U551.25C briefly this afternoon but attracted small selling interest at that level.
The Reserve Bank’s trade-weighted exchange rate was at 63.7 at 3 p.m. — 0.4 ahead of the same time on Tuesday but 0.2 down on 1 p.m. The kiwi was also worth Aust 73.7 c, 1.26 marks, 35.4 p and 103.2 yen in late trading.
The U.S. dollar finished in New Zealand at 2.4710/20 marks and 202.60/70 yen, compared with its opening of 2.4700/20 marks and 202.67/77 yen.
