“Margaret Mahy Theatre” returns in the late afternoons to help keep younger viewers entertained. It begins at 4.25 p.m. today with Part 1 of “The Railway Engine and the Hairy Brigands”(above).
It features familiar adult actors like David Copeland from “Country GP,_ Jon Gadsby and Wickham Pack from “McPhail and Gadsby,” and introduces a number of young actors including Aimee Belton and
Miriam Brookfield. Margaret Mahy, of Governor’s Bay, is one of New Zealand’s most prolific writers of children’s books and plays. Her weird and wonderful stories cast kids in sensible roles and make
affectionate fools of adults. Her picture books are found in schools and libraries throughout the country, and her stage plays are presented regularly during school holidays at many New Zealand theatres.
