“Explorers,” which will start at the Savoy tomorrow, is a story about three boys who share a common dream and make an amazing discovery which propels them on a fantastic adventure.
“The film is primarily about believing in something enough to be able to make it happen,” says Joe (“Gremlins”) Dante, the director.
“Ben, Wolfgang and Darren have these fantastic inter-planetary ideas, and by pursuing them, they are able to do things that no-one has ever done before.
“If people connect with this picture, it will be because everybody has dreams,” he says. “Explorers” marks Dante’s first feature since the success of “Gremlins,” which has grossed more than $2OO million at the
worldwide box office.
Although Dante promises that “there will be no lizards in microwaves” (as in “Gremlins”), audiences would do well to expect the unexpected in “Explorers.”
“this movie is not as weird as ‘Gremlins,’ although I think the shift in tone that ‘Explorers' 1 takes in the middle probably will be shocking,” he says.
“The challenge was to try to keep from making it like every other space movie.
