Five Christchurch people failed to appear in the District Court at Nelson, to answer serious charges arising from incidents at Motueka and Riwaka, and bench warrants for their arrest were issued by Judge Seeman.

Carol Marie Perriton, aged 26, a housewife, was charged with assault on a woman police constable. Paul Alexander Wakefield, aged 26, David Owen Williams, aged 28, Paul Williams, aged 31, and Robin Leslie Griffith, aged 26, all unemployed labourers, were each charged with behaving in

such a disorderly manner in Marchwood Park, Motueka, on January 2, that violence was likely to arise. David Williams was also charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon, a sword, at the entrance to the Riwaka Hotel on December 28, with wilfully damaginig the entrance doors of the hotel, and with assault at Riwaka. A sixth person, who did not appear, and for whom an arrest warrant was also issued, Anne Elizabeth Williams, aged 19, unemployed, who had an Appleby Domain (Nelson) address, faced a charge of possession of cannabis, three of receiving clothing; and two of theft.
